Do we exegise a movie on its own merits or on the book it is based upon. Note that the credits mentioned that it is 'based' upon and is not the book itself.

I do grant that the movie differs from the graphic novel in many ways. However it is a narrative in a different media.

At the moment I am having some intense discussion with some Bible Presbyterians on the Manga Bible on a similar issue.

I will like to hear your views on this. All the scenes the writer described are present in the Bible (maybe except the child biting off another's ear and the anti-American part).

Yet, in spite of all the horrors described in the Bible, we accept that the Bible have a message for us. Why can't we look for the message in the movie? It seems we are so caught up by the media that we have no time for the message.Alex Tanghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04003300678212296112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2196408733789348967.post-9571576995179392212009-03-16T01:06:17.790-07:002009-03-16T01:06:17.790-07:00Well, I'm going to see the movie again. There are plenty of layers in the movie as well, and lots of things hidden around the place that shows that the filmmakers really did pay attention to the book after all.

Despite all the movie's shortcomings, it did do a pretty good job of translating the book to the screen, and it's not a movie that everyone is meant to like anyway.

So "disappointed" is not the word to describe my reaction to the movie. "Ambivalent" would be a better choice.
