This collection of Batman stories were originally issued in DETECTIVE COMICS issues 821-826. The writer is Paul Dini, who also writes for Batman: The Animated Series.
What attracted me to this collection is that the stories are written as detective stories rather than as the usual beat-em up storyline. Paul Dini is playing up the detective side of Batman.
In this series the Batman faces Facade, Riddler, Penguin, Dr. Phosphorus, and there is a Joker story involving Robin. Unfortunately, only the story with Facade is really a detective story, with solving and following clues. The others are just slam-bang type of plots.
