The Depressed Christian
Depression and the Christian Life
Sermon Statement It is a myth that Christians do not suffer from depression. The community of faith must be prepared to help those suffering from depression.
One of my favorite hymns is "There is fountain filled with blood" penned by William Cowper. He penned many more hymns and poems. He suffered form severe depression and tried to commit suicide a few times.
His life is truly a testimony of God's grace. Not only his life was preserved but God used his life to bless so many through his hymns and poems long after he is dead.
Sometimes the church is not a safe place to be depressed. There is so much triumphalism. We expect instant healings, instant results. If that doesn't happened, then one's faith is being questioned. But we really ought to be a healing community extending to each other restorative grace.

Hi SP Lim,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with your comment. Yes, we (the church) should be a healing community.
