Synopsis:
In the 21st century, genetic engineering makes possible the creation of biologically superior human specimens ("valids"), who then grow to positions of power and prestige. Would-be astronaut Vincent (Ethan Hawke) born the old-fashioned way, can only hope for a janitorial position at the elite Gattaca Corporation--until he buys the blood, urine, and identity of a perfect but paralyzed athlete. But a murder in the company's ranks attracts the attention of a detective who threatens to sniff Vincent out.

The story is sited in the near future where it is possible to selected the genetic makeup of your child. As expected, everyone will choose what is good-good looks, high intellect, great agilities etc. These genetically enhanced children grow up to be the new human 'elite.' 'Natural' born humans became the second class of human beings suitable for manual labour.

This is an interesting movie and I have watched it a few times over a number of years. It cinematic format reminds me of a movie version H.G. Wells' 1984. It have a strong storyline which involves the viewer until the unexpected conclusion. It also asks the viewer an important question, "Is being human a matter of genetics?" Are we, human beings the sum total of our genetic legacy or are we more than that? This movie explores this profound question.

Human beings are more than the sum of their genetic code. As this movie shows, a person may have the best human genome, yet he will be second to one who is inferior. What is more important is the human spirit. The human spirit is the intangible force that enables us to be more that what we are capable of or can be. The human genome defines our personal characteristics but not our drives, ambitions or morality.
